Halloween season in San Francisco is officially the high holy days of immersive performance, living history, and paranormal art.

Defying cookie-cutter commercial haunted houses, one of the city's most iconic historic landmark properties is opening its doors for a completely distinct, high-art Halloween production: House of Weird at The Haas-Lilienthal House.

Conceived and led by world-renowned artistic director Gregangelo, born and raised right here in San Francisco, this production transforms the city's premier historic landmark home into a mind-bending world of mystery.

"San Francisco has always been a sanctuary for true eccentricity, deep history, and groundbreaking performing arts," says artistic director Gregangelo. "By transforming the city's most iconic historic landmark home into a weirdly wonderful immersive world, we are giving people an unforgettable, strictly local Halloween experience that simply cannot exist anywhere else."

Preserving History by Supporting Local Artists: The SF Heritage Partnership

At the heart of House of Weird is an extraordinary collaboration between institutional historic preservation and independent local culture workers. Presented in proud partnership with SF Heritage, Velocity Arts and Entertainment, and Velocity Circus, this experience directly aligns with SF Heritage’s mission to preserve and celebrate San Francisco’s unique architectural and cultural legacy.

Rather than relying on traditional corporate backing or grant cycles, this production is empowered by San Francisco working artists and operates on an 100% self-funded model driven entirely by ticket sales. Directed by Gregangelo and powered by local performers, artists, and technicians, House of Weird is fully funded through its audience. SF Heritage acts as a cooperative co-presenter, opening the doors of this grand Victorian time capsule to demonstrate how historic landmarks can actively sustain entrepreneurial local working artists and keep San Francisco's creative heartbeat thriving.

More Than Skeletons and Jump Scares: Where San Francisco Comes Together

Most commercial haunted house attractions push you through dark hallways in single-file lines while strangers scream in the back of your neck. This historic encounter is engineered for true social connection, uncanny humor, absurdity, and the unexpected.

Whether you bring a date, come with a crew of friends, or step inside entirely solo, House of Weird is designed to bring people together. In fact, immersive shows directed by Gregangelo have a history of sparking real connections—including a couple who visited on their wedding day to celebrate, having originally met years prior inside one of these very productions. From first dates to spark-filled encounters with fellow guests, this living history experience proves that shared laughter through screaming, surprise, and a little Victorian suspense are the ultimate matchmakers.
